Dear Ladies,

Reading last night I came across this quote that really struck a nerve.

There are only two things you "have to" do in life. You "have to" die and you "have to" live until you die. You make up all the rest. -Marilyn Grey

It got me thinking. The idea is not an out from all the important, but less than fun things we find ourselves doing each day. But really a call to us to understand that every minute we have a choice and that we choose to do the hard stuff so that we can also enjoy the joyful moments. The fact that you choose to spend hours of your precious time dancing with me is a gift. In return, I promise to make the time we spend together as rich and efficiently fun as possible. We will strive together to forge community, develop better looking booties and take a break from our routines in great hip hop songs.

Our group was featured (y'all looking fine, I might add) in the moultrie news this week. Pick it up or check it out at the link below:

PostHeaderIcon Dear Funky Divas,

"There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less."
-Kurt Hahn

There is a lot more in us, that I know for sure. Each and every Mon & Thurs I see some of the strongest, confident and well, hottest women I have ever encountered. I don't think those qualities can be judged by the size of your jeans, but by the zest you have for life, for taking care of yourself and in turn being happy and healthy.
Commit to not just exercising, but doing something that makes you feel good, makes you smile...maybe even laugh. If you can find that mixture of fitness, friendship and laughter, well, you have found something very special. Don't let that slip by each week....that would be settling for less.
I hope to share some sweat and a few laughs with all of you tonight.

Peace & Love,

Hey y'all fine fine ladies,

The last three days of dance have been a few of the most inspiring and energizing of my life. This weekend I was up in Myrtle Beach at a dance convention where almost a thousand dancers and their teachers tore it up from morning til night. Some of the greatest artists from Broadway, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz and Lyrical came together to share their wisdom and best moves with the next generation. It was a privilege to take such incredible classes and teach a few myself to dancers hungry to add to their skills.

The give and take, the positivity and support that dancers of all styles, shapes, and ages had for one another was simply beautiful. Moving to music is transformative- and while one person dancing is a joy- one hundred moving together with purpose, music pumping- is truly awesome.

and guess what else...... dance keeps you young. Mary Ann Lamb and Dena Rizzo are two heroic role models of mine who taught this weekend. Mary, a veteran of 15 Broadway shows and the hottest Fosse Diva you've ever seen, and Dena, an old school hip hop pied-piper, who leaves gliding and popping kids in her wake, are both 49 years old, moving better than twenty year olds, and so bright and full of life that you need sunglasses just to look at them. They were right in there with Geo (from Iconic) and Darrin Henson (from Stomp the Yard) showcasing their talents the crowds going wild. "Nuthin' but a Number" is all Dena said about age

So what do we take from all this. Dance, keep dancing and don't stop. Dance around the living room, dance down aisle 8 at Publix. Give love to the cloggers, ballerinas and salsatinas in your life. And keep meeting up Mondays and Thursdays with your sisters in sweat. See you at 7:30.

Angel

BTW Got some great new music and moves to challenge you with tonight-- Be Ready to Bring It!

Dear Smoking Hot Chicks,

Tonight we announce the winners of the holiday challenge. The commitment to fitness of the group as a whole over the festive season was remarkable and I congratulate not only the prize winners, but everyone who came to dance.

Studies have shown that one strenuous session of exercise (including cardio, stretching and strength training---hint, hint, hint) is enough to MAINTAIN one's fitness. (If you don't chug cookies the rest of the week). More than that, such as another Hip Hop class, some judo, gardening, jai alai, power lifting or a long walk, and you can substantially IMPROVE on a weekly basis. So one class: Good; two classes: Gravy.

The other components to training are equally important, DIET and REST. We will talk more about diet in the weeks to come, but a bit about rest. It is so easy to get addicted to CSI:NY or Law and Order . But remind yourself- the extra hour of sleep is much better medication for you than the slow morphine drip of a watching a crime soived in HD. And if you get run down-your whole household will too.

Take Good Care and See You Tonight,

Followers
